Design and Dissemination Studios: A Strategy for Promoting Scholarly Work in Your Program
Original Presentation Date: 6/24/2021
Abstract
The Collaborative for Rural Primary care Research, Education, and Practice (Rural PREP) has adapted a process, originally developed for cancer research, to engage community members in a research Design and Dissemination Studio (DDS) in rural health professions education and training, enlarging a scholarly community of practice in preparing a future rural health workforce. A community engagement studio, developed by the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance for cancer research, engaged community members to participate in the design of research and then help interpret and disseminate the results. The process was designed to (1) strengthen research proposals; (2) build a cadre of research-engaged professional and community stakeholders; (3) make research more community centered, culturally relevant, and accessible; (4) suggest and share strategies for effective dissemination; and now, as creatively adapted by Rural PREP, (5) increase the relevance of research to a community of practice in rural health professions education.
This webinar describes the process of planning and implementing a studio in detail and direct participants to resources, followed by an opportunity for the audience to engage with presenters to discuss how to use the tool more broadly. Join Rural PREP’s leadership team as they present their learnings over the past five years of funding by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
Following this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Choose an appropriate venue for a Design and Dissemination Studio (DDS)
- Recruit two researchers to present a proposed, in-progress, or ready-to-publish study
- Assemble a diverse group of stakeholder participants
- Prepare both presenters and participants for a community-engaged event
