How Can We Strengthen Rural Opportunities in K-16 Education to Promote Primary Care Health Careers?

Rural students often lack exposure to and preparation for careers in primary care and other health careers. A comprehensive analysis of programs targeting K-16 rural students to engage them in health careers has not been undertaken. Through a review of existing peer-reviewed and grey literature, a survey of programs, and interviews with select program directors, this Rural PREP study aims to describe the number and distribution of rural K-16 programs, the components of these programs, and available evidence on their outcomes with the aim of identifying and sharing successful strategies.
